When you post a lost or found pet report on Pet FBI, we automatically search the database for reports that may be a match. The Report Matching Dashboard puts all those potential matches in one place so you can review them at any time, no manual searching required.

What the Report Matching Dashboard Does

The matching dashboard automatically returns found pet reports if you posted a lost pet report, or lost pet reports if you posted a found pet report. Results are filtered by:

  • Location: reports within a defined radius of the zip code you used
  • Date: reports within a relevant time window around your report date
  • Species: only the same animal type as your report (dog, cat, etc.)

This gives you a targeted, curated list of possible matches to review, saving you the time of manually browsing the full database.

How to Access the Matching Dashboard

  1. Log in to your Pet FBI account and go to your dashboard
  2. Click Your Reports to view the list of reports you have posted
  3. On any report, click the matches button (look for the document icon next to each report)
  4. The matching dashboard will load with results for that specific report

You can return to the matching dashboard at any time to check for newly posted reports that may match yours.

What You Will See

The matching dashboard displays:

  • Your original report — shown in a collapsible card at the top so you can compare details at a glance
  • A map view — matching reports are plotted as markers on a map, letting you visualize where they were found relative to your location
  • A card grid — each matching report is shown as a card with photo, description, date, and location details
  • A free-text filter — type any word, phrase, or date (in YYYY-MM-DD format) to narrow the results further

Loading More Results

If there are more matching reports in the database beyond the initial set, a Load More Reports card will appear at the end of the grid. Click it to fetch additional results from the database and continue reviewing.

No Matches Found?

If the dashboard shows no matching reports, don't give up. The matching dashboard searches a focused set of criteria, but the full database may still contain relevant reports outside those parameters.

Try widening your search manually using the Pet FBI Report Search feature, where you can adjust the radius, date range, and other filters to cast a broader net.

You will also continue to receive automatic email alerts for any new reports that match your report as they are posted. Those run for 90 days from the date you submitted or last updated your report.
